Doesn't look like that much really changed. But then for my personal use it is perfect anyway.

Just trying it and it seems a good start with a long way to go.
Have been a long, long time user of Quicken and Intuit products and there HAS to be something to replace their software. They get worse and worse every year.
Three stars for trying. Hoping this develops into something better.

Brilliant piece of software. Probably not as capable as GnuCash. But then it was never intended to be. Nice and simple. Beats the pants off some of the cheaper comercial programs available.

I just love reviews from guys like alcvanamelsvoort, its obvious they either didn't try it, or he has a messed up comp, or he works for a company that has a competing product.
Money Manager is incredibly stable, it would not have gotten as far as it has it it were flaky, a lot of time and effort has gone into this application and it deserves a much better review than that.

I downloaded and installed this application with high expectations. However, I've never encountered an unstable application like this one and it's no longer on my PC.

For those who want a simple, reliable money manager without the bells, whistles and bloat of MS Money, MMEX rocks. Cross-platform and open source too. Strongly recommended.

This is a cool app and after recently getting extremely frusterated and giving up on Quickbooks due to its clunkiness and ridiculous organization - I felt immediately thrilled with this and transferred my spreadsheets into CSV and into this. Worked great.
I have many complaints though --
#1) Does not periodically save backups. I just lost 1 hour of work after it crashed.
#2) Details field is not an available column
#3) On Repeating Transactions, the Transaction # is not an available column, making multiple repeating transactions from the same client confusing.
#4) It's a little slow =)
Otherwise, I see great promise!

A WONDERFUL alternative to Quickbooks or Quicken, especially for personal small time use like I need the program for. I never thought of keeping a tab on my personal financial situation until now. This program makes it easy, quick, and fast. Please add the ability to have graphical reports like PIE CHARTS! This is one deeply lacking feature from the program. 4 star program until graphical reports are added!

I like this one so far. Light and flexible. Two things bother me. 1. entry should look more like checkbook register type. very small learning curve. 2. when trying to create JUST a savings account, you are given the option of Checking/Savings and then when chosen, it locks itself as Checking. you then have to rename it to something like "Savings Acct:" or whatever floats your boat so that you can see it in the tree list that it's a savings account.
Fix those things and you can totally replace Money/Quicken!

Here you can see a development of a software. Excellent work!
zorty reviewed v0.8.0.0 Beta on Jan 2, 2007
it comes up with a SQL syntax error after creating a bank account on first start. Furthermore it does not support dynamic stock price updates. I don't expect it to be realtime (you usually have to pay for that) - but some kind of automatic update would be nice indeed. 3/5 for now.
Localization doesn't work either :?

Excellent piece of software. It's been over a year since I switched over from Quicken. Everything you need to manage your personal income and investments is available at your fingertips. Also, the software is constantly updated with ever improving performance and features.
uberfly reviewed v0.7.0.6 Beta on Dec 12, 2006
This is really nice. I like the simple, no-nonsense tree interface. DatabaseBen, has a point about it being beta, but there's no risk of any financial data being stolen as it doesn't connect out to the internet. It's just a registry to keep track of your financial numbers in an interface 1000x more simplistic than msmoney or quicken.
anomoly reviewed v0.7.0.3 Beta on Nov 29, 2006
Truecrypt is for volumes & axcrypt for files (oops). As far as security, that is a firewall problem not a software one.
DatabaseBen reviewed v0.7.0.3 Beta on Nov 28, 2006
i'm pro opensource.
but putting sensitive financial data into an experiment is like leaving a wallet full of money on a bistro table in a shopping mall.
since there is no "seal of assurance" for programs like these (yet) I will wait for my bank
to list it as a software that has been tested and approved by them to securily manage confidential financial data. Then i'll be happy to use it...

Very nice interface, and the power is certainly there. The one problem with it though is that it recommends you store your PIN number in it.
Though it does come with a built in encryption tool I will not be entering any sensitive data into it (especially my pin number) as I do not trust this tool to encrypt it safely (nothing personal).
The total balance (of all accounts) is permanently in dollars no matter what you have set for currency UNTIL you restart the program - it is not instant. IT DOES SUPPORT LOADS OF CURRENCIES THOUGH!
I have taken to encrypting my data file externally with my purpose built encryption software. As long as I decrypt it first this works fine!
Very nice job though, its the encryption software that lost it the 5.

For one, any device that carried ANY so called vital info would itself have to be secure. But simply axcrypting (truecrypt is not free -axcrypt rocks) the exe and or db would at least guard the #'s themselves.
jafo818 reviewed v0.6.0.1 on Jun 19, 2006
Pretty amazing that this does not have even basic password protection. With this amount of personal data, the database needs to be encrypted, and the program needs to be protected by a master password that is also encrypted on disk.
Looks pretty useful though... I do plan on making use of it if he implements encryption (looks like it's on his feature list according to his Google Groups support messages...).
rpavl reviewed v0.6.0.1 on Jun 19, 2006
EXCELLENT! I have been using this instead of the bloated MM and Quicken. Has never crashed, and is simple and small. I dont need the big bang theory of MM or Quicken to track my checkbook, etc. Great Product.

This program needs to have an import function to import Microsoft Money files... otherwise very few people will switch.
DeKoquonut reviewed v0.5.2.2 on May 11, 2006
It crashes so often and so soon after being opened, it's hard to tell how good it would be if it were stable.

I give it 4 because still need a lot of work and new features but I hope it will become a great product !
nerrad reviewed v0.5.2.1 on May 3, 2006
This is great! I currently use Microshaft Money, but can see myself using this in the future. Password protection and encryption is all that's missing. I like the small footprint; a little over 4.5 MB compared to 113 MB for MS Money. I don't need or want alot of bells and whistles just to balance my checking account. Money Manager Ex fits the bill nicely.
Dwiebelhaus reviewed v0.5.2.1 on May 3, 2006
I like it , i'm not having the issues the other users have reported , i've tested it not extensivley
as of yet but i will contuinue to use it for a few months and see how it pans out as well as contuinue to search for the perfect program for this type of simple checkbook , billing tracking type of program.......
I would however like to see password functions & data base encryption to ensure security.

spiked reviewed v0.1 Alpha on Feb 7, 2006
I realize this is clearly labelled 0.1 Alpha, but it is sooooo unfinished and crash-prone that you could not possibly use this for any real-world financial management. Although the description implies that the program is cross-platform already, it's really just theoretical. It has been rewritten in VC++ which "could" presumably be ported to another ANSI C++ compiler for Linux, Mac OS X, etc. but it hasn't actually been done, and the author looks to be a long way from having enough functionality on Win32 that anyone would want to run it on other platforms. If he wanted cross-platform, he would have been better off adapting his .NET code for Mono. Mono hasn't finished their Windows.Forms implementation but their Gtk# toolkit is usable.
eddie reviewed v2.3.3.1 on Feb 5, 2006
I use it daily.. wonderful! Only one problem, the program says its version 2.3.3.0 when it's installed.. the author says that's just an error though and it's really 2.3.3.1
