stealthspy, it is based on a final code. XVID source is 1.0. All these flavours are based on that code. Go to xvid.org to get more info. They dont release binaries yet but they did finalize their code...
There are alternatives to this AC3 audio filter. Search google. I used this one for a while but like yourself, found that none of the settings were kept for the next movie. I also had a problem with quality and consistency in some of my movies....

I agree with the bloating. 2.1.4 was nearly perfect. All it needed was some GUI changes and updating. With this new version, all the simple functionality is removed. You have rules here and rules there. Everything seems burried and hard to access....
